Household appliance registration FAQs

What's the difference between ECAS and EQM?

ECAS is the baseline Certificate of Conformity (typically valid one year). EQM is a higher-assurance quality mark that includes factory auditing and is valid for around three years.

Do appliances need an energy label?

Many energy-using appliances, such as air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines, must carry the UAE energy-efficiency label where a standard applies.

What testing is required?

Electrical safety and EMC testing in accredited laboratories, plus energy-efficiency testing for regulated energy-using products.

Who administers the certification?

The Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology (MoIAT, formerly ESMA) administers ECAS and EQM for electrical appliances.
